Open Notes

Notes is a lightweight writing workspace inside Sorceress for capturing game ideas while you build. Use it for project notes, quest outlines, dialogue drafts, asset lists, puzzle logic, bug reminders, prompt fragments, or any other plain-text reference you want available beside the rest of your creative tools.

Notes is account-based. You must be signed in to create notes. Pro users can save notes to the cloud so they are available when returning to the same account. Signed-in users without Pro can create and edit notes during the current session, but those notes are not saved permanently.

What it does

Notes provides a simple two-pane interface:

  • A notes sidebar for creating, selecting, searching, and deleting notes.
  • A main editor for changing the selected note’s title and body text.

Each note includes a title, plain-text content, and an updated date shown in the sidebar. The list is ordered with the most recently updated notes first when notes are loaded, making active work easy to find.

Notes is intentionally minimal. It is not a rich document editor; it is designed for fast drafting, reference writing, and scratch planning without formatting controls getting in the way.

Typical workflow

  1. Open Notes.
  2. Sign in if prompted.
  3. Click New in the sidebar.
  4. Replace Untitled Note with a useful title.
  5. Type your note in the main editor.
  6. For Pro users, wait for the Saved indicator after editing.
  7. Use the sidebar to switch between notes.
  8. Use Search notes... to find text across note titles and note bodies.

Creating notes

To create a note:

  1. Click New in the Notes sidebar.
  2. A new note opens in the editor.
  3. Edit the title field at the top.
  4. Start typing in the body area.

New notes begin with the title Untitled Note and an empty body. If you clear the title field completely, the note title returns to Untitled Note.

If you are signed out, the New button is disabled and the sidebar prompts you to sign in.

Editing notes

When a note is selected, the editor shows:

  • A title field at the top.
  • A large plain-text writing area below it.

The body area uses a simple monospace text style, which is useful for outlines, lists, prompt fragments, pseudo-dialogue, puzzle notes, and other planning text.

The body editor supports plain text only. It does not provide headings, bold, italics, embedded images, tables, checkboxes, or other rich formatting controls.

If no note is selected, the editor area shows No Note Selected and prompts you to select a note from the sidebar or create a new one.

Saving behavior

For Pro users, Notes saves automatically. There is no manual save button.

When you edit a note title or body:

  1. The note updates immediately in the interface.
  2. After a short pause in typing, Notes saves the change automatically.
  3. The editor may show Saving... while the save is in progress.
  4. After a successful save, the editor briefly shows Saved.

If you switch to another note while edits are waiting, Notes attempts to save the current note before opening the next one.

The sidebar footer confirms cloud saving with Notes saved to cloud.

Signed-in users without Pro

Signed-in users without Pro can create and edit notes in the current session, but notes do not save permanently. The sidebar displays Notes don’t save without Pro and includes an Upgrade to Pro button.

Use non-Pro notes only for temporary scratch work. If the content is important, copy it somewhere else before ending your session.

Searching notes

Use the Search notes... field in the sidebar to filter your notes.

Search checks:

  • Note titles
  • Note body text

Results update as you type. To return to the full list, clear the search field.

If no notes match the current search, the sidebar shows No matching notes found.

If you have no notes yet, the sidebar shows No notes yet. Click “+ New” to create one.

Selecting and switching notes

Click any note card in the sidebar to open it in the editor.

Each note card shows:

  • The note title
  • A short preview of the body text, or Empty note if the body has no content
  • The note’s updated date

The selected note is highlighted. On smaller screens, selecting a note automatically closes the notes panel so the editor has more room.

Deleting notes

Each note card has a trash button. To delete a note:

  1. Hover over the note card in the sidebar.
  2. Click the trash icon.
  3. Confirm the deletion when asked.

If you delete the note that is currently open, Notes automatically selects another remaining note if one is available. If no notes remain, the editor returns to the No Note Selected state.

Deletion is permanent for saved notes. There is no recovery option shown in the Notes interface, so copy anything important before deleting.

Mobile layout

On smaller screens, the notes list is available through a Notes panel toggle. Use it to open the sidebar, choose a note, search, create a note, or delete a note.

After you select a note, the panel closes automatically so the editor can use the available screen space. You can reopen the Notes panel whenever you need to switch notes or search again.

Account and access states

Sign in before creating notes.

Signed in without Pro

When you are signed in without Pro:

  • You can create and edit notes during the current session.
  • Notes do not save permanently.
  • The sidebar shows Notes don’t save without Pro.
  • An Upgrade to Pro button is available.

Signed in with Pro

When you are signed in with Pro:

  • Saved notes are loaded when you return.
  • The editor shows Saving... and Saved status messages during automatic saving.
  • The sidebar shows Notes saved to cloud.

Practical uses for game creators

Notes works well for quick, structured planning alongside other Sorceress tools. Common uses include:

  • A project overview note with genre, tone, setting, and design pillars.
  • Character notes for personalities, motivations, relationships, and dialogue style.
  • Quest or level outlines.
  • Lists of assets you still need to create.
  • Puzzle rules, clues, and solution notes.
  • Item, ability, enemy, or faction ideas.
  • Prompt fragments you want to reuse while working in generative tools.
  • Bug reminders and playtest observations.
  • Release checklist notes.

For larger projects, use separate notes with clear titles instead of keeping everything in one long document. This makes sidebar search much more useful.

Tips & troubleshooting

I cannot create a note

Make sure you are signed in. When signed out, Notes displays Sign in to use Notes and disables note creation.

My notes are not saving

Cloud saving requires Pro. If the sidebar says Notes don’t save without Pro, your notes are only temporary for the current session.

I do not see the Saved message

The Saved message appears only after a successful automatic save and disappears after a moment. If you are not a Pro user, the save confirmation does not appear because notes are not cloud-saved.

I cannot find a note

Clear the search field first. If a search term is active, the sidebar only shows matching notes. Search checks both titles and body text.

The notes list is not visible on mobile

Use the Notes panel toggle near the top of the page. After selecting a note, the panel closes automatically so you can write in the editor.

I deleted the wrong note

Notes asks for confirmation before deletion, but once confirmed, there is no recovery option in the interface. Treat deletion as permanent.

My title changed back to Untitled Note

If the title field is left blank, Notes uses Untitled Note as the default title. Enter a new title to rename it.
