WizardGenie on the Web lets you use WizardGenie directly inside Sorceress without installing the desktop app. Open it in your browser while signed in, and Sorceress starts a private WizardGenie workspace for your account with your project folders, AI chat, code/game editing experience, and live preview.
What it does
WizardGenie on the Web is the browser version of WizardGenie. It uses the same core WizardGenie app experience as the desktop edition, adapted to run through a browser-connected cloud session.
Use it to:
- Create and edit WizardGenie game projects from a browser.
- Chat with the WizardGenie AI assistant to generate, modify, and debug your game.
- Preview your active game project while you work.
- Keep project folders associated with your Sorceress account.
- Reopen your most recent project folder when you return.
- Create, switch, rename, and delete project folders.
- Download a project folder as a zip archive for local backup or transfer.
The web app is useful when you want to work from a machine where you cannot install the desktop app, when you want to move between devices, or when you prefer a no-install workflow inside Sorceress.
Requirements
To use WizardGenie on the Web, you need:
- A Sorceress account.
- To be signed in before opening the app.
- A modern browser with WebSocket support.
- A stable internet connection.
There is no anonymous web demo. If you are not signed in, the app cannot start your WizardGenie session.
How to open it
- Go to WizardGenie on the Web.
- Sign in to Sorceress if prompted.
- Wait for the WizardGenie web session to start. First launch or a fresh session can take a few seconds.
- When the WizardGenie interface appears, choose an existing project folder or begin with the project that opens automatically.
- Start editing, previewing, or chatting with the WizardGenie AI assistant.
If you have used the web app before, WizardGenie attempts to reopen your most recently used project folder. If you are new, WizardGenie starts with an example-project folder so the workspace is not empty.
Typical workflow
A common web workflow looks like this:
- Open WizardGenie on the Web while signed in.
- Confirm that the correct project folder is active.
- Ask the AI assistant to create or modify part of your game, or make edits manually in the workspace.
- Use the live preview to check the result.
- Continue iterating: describe changes, review the output, and test again.
- Switch folders if you want to work on another project.
- Download a zip backup before major experiments, before sharing files outside Sorceress, or when you want a local copy.
Because the web app depends on an active browser connection, keep the tab open while the assistant is working or while you are waiting for a preview to update.
Project folders
WizardGenie on the Web organizes your work into project folders. A folder is a complete game workspace containing the files for that project.
You can use project folders to separate different games, experiments, prototypes, and backups. In the web app, you can typically:
- View available project folders.
- Create a new folder.
- Switch to another folder.
- Rename a folder.
- Delete a folder.
- Download a folder as a zip archive.
Folder switching may take a few seconds. WizardGenie saves the current folder, loads the selected folder, refreshes the project services, and restarts the preview/indexing state for the newly active project.
First project and reopened projects
When a new account opens the web app for the first time, WizardGenie creates or opens an example-project folder. After that, WizardGenie remembers the last folder you used and tries to reopen it the next time you start a web session.
If the last folder is not available for some reason, WizardGenie falls back to an available project folder. If no folders exist yet, it starts from the example project.
Folder names
Web project folder names are normalized for safe cloud storage. Use simple names made from lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens.
Folder names should follow these rules:
- 1–40 characters.
- Lowercase letters, digits, and hyphens only.
- Cannot start with a hyphen.
- Cannot end with a hyphen.
Good examples:
my-platformerspace-demorpg-test-2
Avoid spaces, punctuation, uppercase letters, underscores, and very long names. If you enter a name that is not valid, WizardGenie may simplify it or ask you to choose a different name.
Deleting folders
You cannot delete the folder that is currently active. Switch to a different folder first, then delete the folder you no longer need.
Before deleting a project folder, download a zip backup if there is any chance you may need the files later.
Saving and cloud sync
WizardGenie on the Web is designed to save your project folders to cloud storage associated with your Sorceress account. Sync happens automatically during normal use, including while you work, when you switch folders, and when the session is closing.
Important saving notes:
- Keep the tab open while a long AI task is running.
- After large changes, wait a moment before closing or refreshing the tab.
- Download a zip backup before making major experimental changes.
- If you see a cloud sync warning, pause important edits until the warning clears or download a backup if possible.
- A hard browser refresh may reconnect you to a fresh session, but your last synced project folder should reload.
WizardGenie also attempts to save promptly when the browser disconnects, such as during a refresh or tab close. Even so, immediately closing the tab after a large change can put the very latest edits at risk if the browser or network cuts off before sync completes.
Cloud sync status
The web app checks whether cloud sync is available for your session. If cloud sync is healthy, project folders can be restored between sessions and across devices.
If cloud sync is unavailable, WizardGenie may show a warning such as cloud sync being offline. Treat this as important: continuing to edit while sync is broken may put recent changes at risk if the session ends.
If you see a cloud sync warning:
- Pause major edits.
- Wait briefly to see whether the warning clears.
- If possible, download your current project folder as a zip backup.
- Avoid refreshing or closing the page until you have given the app time to save.
- If the warning persists, try again later or contact support.
AI chat
WizardGenie’s AI assistant can help build, modify, and troubleshoot your game project. In the web app, the assistant works inside the currently active project folder, so make sure you are in the correct project before asking it to make changes.
Useful ways to work with the assistant:
- Ask it to create a starter game or prototype.
- Describe a gameplay mechanic you want added.
- Ask it to fix an error you see in the preview.
- Ask for a small, specific change and then preview the result.
- Ask it to explain what it changed before you continue.
For best results, be specific. Instead of “make it better,” try “add a double-jump to the player, show a small dust effect when landing, and keep the current controls.” Smaller, focused requests are usually easier to review and test than very broad prompts.
Long-running AI tasks
Some AI tasks take longer than others, especially when the assistant is planning, reasoning, editing many files, or generating a larger response.
While the assistant is working:
- Keep the WizardGenie tab open.
- Avoid signing out in another tab.
- Avoid refreshing unless the app is clearly stuck.
- Watch the status indicator in the chat area.
If a task takes longer than usual, WizardGenie shows a warning-style status message. After a longer delay, the message updates to indicate that it is still working. The chat status includes a Stop button that lets you cancel the current turn and regain control.
Use Stop when you no longer want to wait, when you realize your prompt needs to be changed, or when the assistant appears to be stuck. If the request is genuinely hung, the Stop button is the main way to bail out before the underlying request times out on its own.
If a connection is interrupted
Browser sessions depend on a live network connection. If the connection briefly drops during an AI response, WizardGenie may attempt to continue automatically. If the chat remains stuck after an interruption, refresh the page, reopen the project, and check the latest saved state before retrying the request.
If the assistant repeatedly fails on the same request, try a smaller prompt or ask it to inspect and explain the current issue before making more changes.
Live preview
WizardGenie starts a live preview for the active project folder. Use the preview to test your game while you edit and after AI-assisted changes.
If the preview is unavailable or stale:
- Wait a few seconds after switching folders or making major changes.
- Refresh the preview panel if the interface provides a refresh control.
- Check whether the active project has the required project files.
- Reload the WizardGenie page if the preview appears stuck.
- If you recently switched project folders, give WizardGenie time to finish loading and indexing the new folder.
The preview is tied to the active folder. If you switch folders, the preview updates for the new project after the switch completes.
Downloading a project backup
Use the project folder download option when you want a local copy of your files. Downloads are provided as zip archives.
General steps:
- Open WizardGenie on the Web.
- Select the project folder you want to export.
- Use the folder download/export option in the WizardGenie project folder controls.
- Save the zip file to your computer.
- Extract it locally if you want to inspect, archive, or transfer the files.
Downloading a backup is especially recommended before large experimental AI edits, before deleting or renaming folders, and before moving work into another environment.
Idle behavior and reconnecting
Web sessions are designed to pause when they are no longer being used. If you close the tab, disconnect, or leave the app idle, the session may eventually stop. When you return, Sorceress starts or reconnects to a WizardGenie session and reloads your project folder from cloud sync.
Current web sessions are designed to give normal tab-switching and long-running assistant work enough time to continue. If an AI job is actively running, WizardGenie attempts to avoid stopping the session while that job is in progress. However, a browser or network disconnect during a long task can still interrupt the visible chat stream.
If your session disconnects:
- Refresh the page.
- Wait for WizardGenie to reconnect or start a fresh session.
- Confirm that the correct project folder is active.
- Check the latest saved project state.
- Restart any interrupted AI request if needed.
Differences from the desktop app
WizardGenie on the Web uses the same core WizardGenie experience, but there are practical differences from the desktop edition.
| Area | Web app behavior | |---|---| | Installation | No install required; runs in the browser. | | Sign-in | Requires a signed-in Sorceress account. | | Project storage | Uses cloud-synced project folders tied to your Sorceress account. | | Local filesystem | Does not behave like a full desktop filesystem. Download zip backups when needed. | | Reconnecting | A refresh or return after idle may reconnect to a new web session and reload saved project files. | | Long-running work | Depends on a live browser connection and the web session remaining available. | | Memory features | Desktop-oriented memory systems are not available in the web session. | | Browser automation tools | Desktop-only browsing/automation capabilities are not available in the web session. |
For users who need deeper local control, direct local filesystem workflows, or desktop-only features, the desktop WizardGenie app may still be the better choice. Use the web app for convenience, access from multiple devices, and no-install work.
Tips for best results
- Keep project folder names short and simple.
- Work in one active folder at a time.
- Download a backup before large or risky changes.
- Make AI requests specific and testable.
- Preview after each meaningful change rather than waiting until many changes have accumulated.
- Wait a moment after large edits before closing the tab.
- If something seems wrong after a refresh, first confirm that you are in the correct project folder.
- If cloud sync shows a warning, stop and protect your work before continuing.
Troubleshooting
The app says I am not authenticated
You must be signed in to Sorceress. Sign in, then reopen WizardGenie on the Web. If you recently signed out in another tab, refresh the page after signing in again.
The app is stuck while starting
A new web session can take a few seconds to become ready. If it remains stuck:
- Refresh the page.
- Confirm you are still signed in.
- Disable browser extensions that block WebSockets or embedded apps.
- Try a different network if you are on a restrictive firewall.
- Try again later if the service is temporarily unavailable.
My session disconnected
Refresh the page to start or reconnect to a session. Your last synced project folder should reload. If you were in the middle of an AI task, that task may need to be restarted.
My recent edits are missing after refresh
First check that you are in the correct project folder. Cloud sync is automatic, but very recent edits can be at risk if the browser or session closes before sync completes. If you downloaded a zip backup, restore from that copy. For future work, wait a moment after large changes before closing or refreshing the tab.
I see a cloud sync offline warning
Stop making important changes until sync is healthy. If you need to continue, download a project backup first. Refreshing or closing the tab while sync is offline may risk unsaved changes.
I cannot delete a folder
The active folder cannot be deleted while it is open. Switch to a different folder first, then delete the folder you no longer need.
My folder name is rejected
Use lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens only. The name must be 1–40 characters and cannot start or end with a hyphen. For example, use space-demo instead of Space Demo!.
The live preview does not load
Wait a few seconds, especially after switching folders or after a major AI edit. Then refresh the preview if available. If it still does not load, refresh the WizardGenie page and confirm that the active project contains the files needed to run.
The AI has been “thinking” for a long time
Some requests legitimately take a while. WizardGenie shows a longer-running status indicator after a delay. You can keep waiting or press Stop to cancel the current turn.
The chat got stuck after a connection interruption
Refresh the page, reopen the project, and check the latest saved state. If the same request fails again, try a smaller prompt or ask the assistant to inspect the issue before making more changes.
