True Pixel

Turn any image
or video into
pixel sprite sheets.

True Pixel converts still images into clean pixel sprites and videos into animated pixel-art sprite sheets. Extract frames, remove backgrounds, lock palettes, apply dithering, smooth flicker, and export to every 2D engine.

How it works

From image or video source to sprite sheet.

True Pixel is the cleanup and conversion layer for 2D game art. Start with a still image, AI character render, or video clip; then prepare the frames, clean the background, convert to pixel art, stabilize the animation, and export single sprites or animated sprite sheets.

STEP 01

Start with a full-body image or video source

Start from a still image, full-body AI character render, video clip, GIF-style source, animation test, or ordinary game asset. True Pixel can prepare a single frame or extract a video into selected frames before conversion.

  • Video and image upload support
  • Automatic frame extraction at 30 FPS
  • Frame selection and deletion before conversion
  • Single-image and multi-frame workflows

STEP 02

Clean the background, palette, and edges

Before the final downscale, True Pixel can remove backgrounds, clean chroma spill, enhance edges, and lock the entire animation to a shared palette. Use automatic palettes or classic presets like PICO-8, NES, Game Boy, Sweetie-16, and more.

  • Chroma key and CorridorKey background cleanup
  • Edge chroma cleanup and outline controls
  • Auto palette extraction or classic palette presets
  • Ordered or Floyd-Steinberg dithering

STEP 03

Build the final sprite sheet

Convert selected frames into crisp pixel art, preserve temporal stability across the animation, and export the finished frames as a sprite sheet or individual PNGs. Tight crop, fixed canvas, and scaled preview exports are all built in.

  • Shared palette for stable multi-frame animation
  • Temporal smoothing to reduce pixel flicker
  • Tight crop or fixed-canvas output modes
  • PNG sprite sheet and ZIP export workflows

Perfect for

What people use it for.

Convert AI-generated character art, effects, items, environment assets, equipment, inventory art, and ordinary source images into a consistent pixel-art style your game can ship with.

Exports

Pixel art that works anywhere.

True Pixel outputs the universal formats every 2D game engine understands: transparent PNG sprite sheets, individual frame PNGs, and ZIP bundles for clean project import.

  • PNG sprite sheet with transparent background
  • 1x raw pixel PNG exports
  • Scaled PNG preview exports
  • Individual frame PNGs in a ZIP
  • Fixed canvas, tight crop, and tight-stretch modes
  • Engine-ready frame grids for any 2D pipeline

Anything that reads transparent PNG frames can use True Pixel output. That is essentially every 2D game engine ever shipped.

Common questions

Everything you might be wondering.

Short answers about source files, palettes, backgrounds, and exports before you start converting.

01Is True Pixel an AI generator?+
True Pixel is primarily a local pixel-art conversion and cleanup tool. It takes images or videos you already have, extracts frames when needed, cleans the background, applies palette and dithering rules, and exports game-ready pixel sprites.
02Can I convert a video into a sprite sheet?+
Yes. Upload a video, let True Pixel extract frames, choose the frames you want, then convert the sequence into pixel-art frames and a sprite sheet.
03Can I use my own palettes?+
True Pixel supports automatic palette extraction and built-in classic palettes including PICO-8, Sweetie-16, Endesga 32, Game Boy, CGA, NES, grayscale, and 1-bit. You can control the maximum color count and dithering intensity.
04Does it remove backgrounds?+
Yes. True Pixel includes chroma key tools, pre-process chroma cleanup, edge chroma passes, and CorridorKey background removal options for harder images.
05What export formats does it support?+
The core exports are PNG-based: sprite sheets, 1x pixel PNGs, scaled PNG previews, and ZIP bundles of individual frames. Those formats work in essentially every 2D engine.
06How do I reduce flicker across animation frames?+
Use temporal stability. True Pixel can build a shared palette from multiple frames and run a smoothing pass to reduce single-frame pixel flicker.
